Legends of Jordan in 8 Days: Petra, Jerash and Wadi Rum

8 Days / 7 Nights

Description

Explore Amman, Jerash, the Dead Sea, Petra and Little Petra in 8 days and 7 nights. Includes a 2-hour Wadi Rum 4x4 tour and a free day in Amman.

Legends of Jordan is a complete 8-day, 7-night tour that begins in Amman, with a panoramic visit of its main avenues, the Citadel, the downtown area and the Roman Theater. The trip continues to Jerash, one of the ancient cities of the Decapolis, where you will tour the Triumphal Arch, the Oval Plaza, the Cardo, the Colonnade, the Temple of Aphrodite and the Roman Theater. You will also visit Ajloun Castle, a Crusader-era fortress set high on a mountain. The itinerary then includes a visit to the Dead Sea, with the chance to enjoy its unique waters.
The route continues to Madaba, home of the famous mosaic map of Palestine in the Orthodox Church of Saint George, and goes on to Mount Nebo and Shobak Castle before reaching Petra. There a full day is devoted to discovering the legendary rose-red city of the Nabataeans, including the Treasury, the Colored Tombs and the Royal Tombs. The trip continues to Little Petra and then to the spectacular Wadi Rum desert, where you take a ride of approximately two hours in 4x4 vehicles driven by Bedouins among pink sands and rock formations. The program ends with a return to Amman, including a free day before the transfer to the airport.

Day 2
Amman Panoramic Tour - Jerash - Ajloun - Amman
Breakfast. Panoramic tour of the city of Amman: its most important avenues, the Citadel, the downtown area and the Roman Theater. Continuation to the city of Jerash, one of the cities of the Decapolis. Jerash is located north of Amman, approximately 45 km and one hour away by road. During the excursion, we will visit the Triumphal Arch, the Oval Plaza, the Cardo, the Colonnade, the Temple of Aphrodite and, finally, the Roman Theater, with its wonderful ACOUSTICS. Afterwards we will visit Ajloun Castle, a fortress built in 1185 and rebuilt later, in the 13th century, by the Mamluks after its destruction by the Mongols. It is a Crusader-era castle, set high on the mountain, with a beautiful view. At the end of the visit, return to Amman. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 3
Amman - Dead Sea - Amman
Breakfast. We will visit the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, located 400 meters below sea level. Chance to swim. Return to Amman. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 4
Amman - Madaba - Mount Nebo - Shobak Castle (Panoramic View) - Petra
Breakfast. Departure to visit the Orthodox Church of Saint George, home of the first mosaic map of Palestine. Continuation to Mount Nebo to admire the panoramic view of the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea from the mountain. This place is important because it was the last place visited by Moses, and from there the prophet glimpsed the promised land, which he would never reach. We continue to Shobak Castle, a solitary reminder of the former glory of the Crusaders, built in the year 1115 by King Baldwin as a defense of the road between Damascus and Egypt. The castle is located less than an hour north of Petra. Sometimes called "Mont Real," it is nestled on the slope of a mountain, above a wide area of fruit trees. Departure for Petra. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 5
Petra (Full-Day Visit)
Breakfast. Full day devoted to visiting the rose-red city, the capital of the Nabataeans. During the visit, we will see the most important and representative monuments carved into the rock by the Nabataeans: the Treasury, the famous and internationally known monument featured in one of the Indiana Jones films, the Colored Tombs, the Royal Tombs, etc. Petra is one of those places in the world that you have to visit at least once in a lifetime. At the end of the visit, in the late afternoon, return to the hotel. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 6
Petra - Little Petra - Wadi Rum (4x4, 2 hrs) - Amman
Breakfast. Departure for what is known as "Little Petra," just 15 km north of Petra. A canyon barely 2 m wide with its typical Nabataean architecture makes this visit UNIQUE and incomparable. It was inhabited by the Nabataeans and has many tombs, water cisterns and channels; it has a small path leading to part of the interior area, Siq Al Bared. The scale of this area and the fact that it is a continuation of Petra gave it the name Little Petra. Departure for Wadi Rum, the desert of Lawrence of Arabia. Excursion in the Wadi Rum desert and a 2-hour ride in 4x4 vehicles driven by Bedouins, a short excursion through the lunar landscape of this desert. We will venture into the pink sands of this desert, which has a special charm provided by the granite massifs that nature has shaped into whimsical forms. At the end of the visit, departure for Amman. Arrival. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
Day 7
